https://www.facebook.com/glbhorse/Nicholas Ryan-Purcell lives in Cloughjordan County Tipperary in Ireland. He is originally from Emly village in County Tipperary. Nicholas trained in Television Production at Ballyfermot College, Dublin, graduating in 2012. Nicholas has been interested in television production since the age of fourteen and he felt he needed to produce a media project that would stand out in the film and television industries. The idea of producing a documentary film on the Irish sprinter horse, 'Gordon Lord Byron' became a reality in late October 2014.
The story of the horse was 'so amazing' that Nicholas felt it was perfect documentary material. It was then he was inspired to undertake this particular documentary film project. It seemed an obvious choice of subject, as the owners and the trainer of the horse live within a few miles of where Nicholas lives and also his mother's family (Riggs-Miller) are steeped in racing history.
After several months of carrying out research on the horse and preparing for filming, Nicholas first met the horse on the 14th February 2015 in Tom Hogan's yard. Filming commenced that same week at Dundalk Stadium. Final production wrap was the last week of January 2016. Interviewing is not Nicholas' profession, therefore he chose Tom Rudd to interview the horse's connections for the documentary. Tom works in bloodstock sales and had the skill to get each interviewee talking in conversation mode and the information poured out during interview filming.
This documentary has been Nicholas' most ambitious project to date. The Cahalan family gave endless hours between discussions and edit reviews. The family gave many of their photographs of the horse and their family for use in the documentary. Trainer Tom Hogan liaised with his many contacts around the globe to get much of the material that Nicholas required for making the documentary.
The documentary film is available on DVD only and is not available on any other platform, whether broadcast, VOD etc.
